The brief
A new extension provided the ideal space for a dinning room and a new music system. The kitchen and living room also required audio, preferably from a central set of sources. Aesthetics were high on the agenda and the speakers could not intrude into the living space. Control of the music was essential from every room.
The solution
A QED MusiQ system was installed, with various source components in an existing audio cabinet, located in the new dinning room. This powered a pair of B&W ceiling speakers in three rooms; the dinning room, kitchen and living room. In the living room and kitchen area a QED keypad was installed to allow control of the music in these areas. Skipping tracks, selecting stations and volume control was possible in every area. These keypads also allow for infra red remote control, so a remote control in each area can be used from the comfort of a dinning table or sofa.
The equipment
A new amplifier was installed to provide audio to the dinning room. A tuner and CD player were installed and connected to the host MusiQ unit. This in turn was connected to the keypads using CAT-5 cable and the B&W ceiling speakers using high quality speaker cables. The MusiQ system allows each keypad to control a zone’s speaker volume and source (such as track selection). For this install, each room was a separate zone.
