The brief
Set in a large conservatory, the main focus of the system was a plasma screen based home cinema system. The system had to be as unobtrusive as possible. A large impact while taking up little space was the goal of this particular install. As well as the home cinema, a new audio system was fitted in the study and drawing room. A sitting room received a new entertainment system including a two-channel audio system and a widescreen television.

The solution
In order to provide a fantastic cinema experience without being too intrusive a custom made cabinet was designed and installed by a third party. This allowed us to do several things to achieve this goal:

1. All speaker wire drops into the cabinet immediately behind the speakers.
2. The Plasma wiring drops into the cabinet behind it’s own small stand
3. All the components of the system are inside the cabinet and cannot be seen behind closed doors.
4. An infra-red remote control relay system allows control of these units when the door is closed.
5. The centre speaker was hidden behind a cloth grille in the centre of the cabinet.
6. Stylish ventilation grilles were incorporated at the back of the cabinet to allow for adequate cooling of the equipment.

The equipment
We used an Arcam amplifier, Arcam dvd player and Linn speaker package to provide the audio elements of the cinema. The Linn Uniks were ideal as satellite speakers in order to remain virtually unseen. The plasma screen was a Pioneer 42” model. We also connected a remote controlled sky box, TiVo and VCR.

In the study, we installed a new pair of B&W speakers and a Linn Klassik system. This allows for good quality radio and CD playback in a system that can all be placed on the shelves of a bookcase.

In the drawing room we replaced a CD player and installed a new pair of B&W speakers.

A Philips Pronto LCD remote control was programmed for the home cinema to allow one-touch operation of the main system.
