The brief
To provide a high quality home cinema that was equally competent at 5.1 surround sound as two channel music listening. An existing set of equipment was to be re-used and embellished in a new location. In a second room, the client required a ‘vinyl emporium’ in which they could to listen to a vast collection of vinyl records in ultimate comfort and superb audiophile quality.

Cinema Room

The solution
A 5.1 B&W speaker set was installed with hidden cabling. These Nautilus speakers are at home with two channel music as much as cinema surround sound. An M&K subwoofer was added to increase the low frequency response. An existing suite of Arcam components provided the DVD and Amplification elements of the system. Finally a Pronto remote control was programmed to allow simple control of the entire system, including Sky plus and a DAB tuner.

The equipment
Three B&W Nautilus speakers were added to an existing pair in order to provide the surround sound. Coupled to this was an M&K subwoofer. An existing Arcam CD player, DVD player and Pre and Power amps were also used. Finally a 42” Panasonic plasma screen and an Axia stand were installed for the visual elements.

Vinyl Emporium

The solution
A pair of existing floor standing speakers were hooked up to a hybrid valve amplifier. A turntable was used to provide high quality vinyl playback and a laptop was also added to allow for digital archiving of the vinyl collection in the future and digital music playback.

The equipment
Two B&W Nautilus floor standing speakers, a Unison Research Unico amplifier, a Rega Planar 3 turntable and a Sony Laptop with memory stick capability. The laptop can record from the Unico amplifier which allows for vinyl archiving or transferring to CD.
