The brief
A home cinema was required to be installed in a study environment as part of a complete home refurbishment including distributed audio, video, CCTV and telephony. The plasma screen was to be used as a home entertainment solution in addition to PC display device.

The solution
A Sony DAV 550 was used in conjunction with a 42” Panasonic plasma screen which was mounted in a Neville Johnson custom made cabinet. The equipment was hidden in the cabinetry using infra-red senders to allow for a touch-screen remote control to be used as well. Small speakers were specified for the rear to ensure a discrete installation on a modest budget.

The standalone home cinema in the study was incorporated into the main system. This allowed the hard –disk music server to be controlled from this room to provide an entire music collection at the touch of a button.

A local SKY+ box allowed a great TV picture and 5.1 surround-sound from SKY. SKY+ also provides a local TV recorder and the possibility to pause live TV.

The equipment
The Sony DAV 550 allows for a good sound on a modest budget. This item is reliable and performs above its class for an all in one solution. The Panasonic 42” plasma screen is another fine example of the company’s plasma capabilities and performs fantastically with DVD and SKY+ alike.
