The brief
To install a high quality home cinema in a traditional home with discrete location of equipment a top priority. The room chosen was a large family room which had been designated as a cinema room by night and a TV room in the day.

The equipment could not interfere with the décor of the room and all of the units needed to be hidden away. Especially important was the hiding of cabling and discrete speakers too.

The solution
An M&K 5.1 system was specified using K17’s as the front three speakers in order to ensure a minimal impact on the visual design of the room.

White M&K speakers were also used at the rear of the room just above the door and next to the window.

The Plasma screen was a Pioneer 50” model which was ideally suited to such a large room. Positioned above the fireplace to give the room a natural symmetry, the screen did not overpower the room in any way.

The equipment
A Rotel surround sound processor, Rotel amplifier and Arcam DVD player were hidden away in a cupboard to the left of the screen. In the same cupboard were a Sky and Sky+ box and a VCR. All of these were then distributed and controlled around the house on other televisions.

All of the units in the cupboard were controlled by a Home Theater Master remote control which was custom programmed for the client. These remotes offer an alternative to the commonly used Pronto, in that they are a hybrid LCD and hard button unit. The client was so impressed with its use in the cinema room he asked for three more to use in the kitchen, bedroom and playroom.
